On Saturday August 10, 2024, a beautiful day in the city of Chicago, the Preston T. Ross, Jr. Mentoring Center, hosted the Visually Impaired Social Club.
Board Members, Advisors, Friends, and Mentees Welcomed our guests.
Emma Scott, our Advisory member all the way from Maryland, was on grill duty. She cooked chicken, hamburgers, and beef hot dogs. The menu also included spaghetti, mostaccioli, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, ice cold watermelon, assorted cakes, and peach cobbler.
Beverages included punch, lemonade and water.
Advisory member Glenda Reed, also from Maryland, serenaded guests by singing “Jesus I’ll Never forget.” She insisted everybody join in with singing.
Activities director, Willie Mae Taylor, entertained guests with several games, and participation from the attendees.
Our five mentees present served as hosts and servers. Advisors and mentees came in from Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, and nearby suburbs.
Of Course, our oldest member, Mr. James Peoples, served as DJ for the day. We enjoyed a wonderful time, and our guests expressed their appreciation for a “memorable day.”
