Jayda peoples, graduate

southland college prep high school, c/o 2019

Hey everyone! I’m Jayda, and I just graduated from Southland College Prep. Throughout high school, I participated in a numerous activities. I was the Vice President of Student Council from my Sophomore year to Senior year. I also participated in National Honor Society, where I got to meet phenomenal people while volunteering throughout my town.

But my favorite active activity was track. In track I was considered a “mid distance runner” as I ran the 800 and 400 meter run, which is two laps and one lap around the track respectively. During sectionals I placed 6th for my event. This was a great accomplishment for me because that was my first time running that event in sectionals and “PR’ing” it, which means i set a personal record.

I was also member of the dance team. I performed hip hop, jazz, lyrical, and tap dances from my sophomore year all the way up to my senior year. I won medals from participating in the Speech and Debate team. My team won regional and sectional tournaments.

High school was a blast and I will forever remember all the amazing memories and great mentors I encountered along the way. My favorite memory of high school was prom. I saw all my friends dressed up and it was amazing to have all my family members come out to support me becoming a princess for the day.

In the fall I will be attending Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois to study broadcast journalism. I can’t wait for this new chapter in my life. Of course I will bring along the qualities I learned from the Preston T. Ross Jr. Mentoring Program with me to college to do great things. Thanks so much for tuning in!
